rite aid's policy is to adjust down any coupons for more than the selling price of the item. but in a case like this, i find it much easier to buy another small item that the overage from a store coupon can apply to if the cashier doesn't adjust it. otherwise you can end up in a situation where the register won't take the coupon because your balance is too low, and the cashier refuses to adjust the coupon, or doesn't know how. (this only applies to store coupons, a man. coupon won't apply to other items in a transaction and will still beep if it exceeds the item's price.)
so that's why i picked up the salad bowl... that and i needed one anyway. i found it in the $1 section at my store.
